Richard Hagy Golf Tournament

Scanlon Acura is a proud sponsor of the 9th Annual Richard Hagy Golf Tournament that will be hosted on October 12, 2019, at the Magnolia Landing golf club in North Fort Myers, Florida. All of the event’s proceeds will benefit the Richard Hagy Memorial Scholarship Fund, which is a scholarship offered by the Lee County Foundation for Public Schools.

The scholarship was created as a memorial to Richard Hagy. Hagy was an educator and spent over 30 years educating students at several Lee County Schools such as Mariner Middle, Mariner High School, Riverdale, and ALC High Schools. Hagy was named principal of the year during his time at Mariner Middle School and assisted in the passing of anti-bullying initiatives in the State of Florida. Every year, in his honor, the Lee County Foundation for Public School awards one student from Mariner, Riverdale or Island Coast High School the Richard Hagy Memorial Scholarship to assist them in their post-secondary education.

2020 RDX vs. 2020 BMW X3

The 2020 RDX has some key features that the 2020 BMW X3 just can’t compete with. Let’s begin with the price point of each of these vehicles. The MSRP price on a BMW X3 is $41,950, which is $4,350 more than the Acura RDX. The MDX MSRP is $37,600 and has an impressive amount of standard features.

The Acura RDX comes with the Driver Assistance safety standard with its safety system called AcuraWatch.  AcuraWatch includes adaptive cruise control, low-speed follow, blind-spot detector, lane-keeping assistant, road departure and collision braking mitigation, and surround-view camera systems. The BMW X3 has some comparable features at additional cost.

The BMW X3 lacks an intuitive interface while the Acura RDX has the True Touchpad Interface system standard.  Another standard feature on the RDX’s interface is Apple CarPlay integration. The X3 has Apple CarPlay integration with an extra-cost subscription.

Some extra features that make a big difference are power panoramic moonroofs and power driver’s seat. Panoramic moonroofs come standard on an Acura RDX and BMW X3 has panoramic moonroof options available in certain vehicle packages. Both vehicles have power driver’s seat. The RDX comes standard with 12-way seat adjustments with 16-way available and the X3 has standard 10-way.

There’s even a huge difference between the vehicles when you get under the hood. The RDX has 272 horsepower and the X3 has 248 horsepower. The X3 has an 8-speed automatic transmission while the RDX has a whopping 10-speed automatic transmission with pushbutton shift-by-wire.

Last but not least, Acura has a better warranty of 6 years or 70,000 miles, whichever comes first. BMW’sm warranty is 4 years or 50,000 miles.

Why Did My Apple Carplay Change?

Apple has officially released its iOS 13 update. The update not only offers new features for iPhone users but also gives a new look to the Apple CarPlay display interface in your Acura! Let’s review the major changes you will see on your Acura’s Apple CarPlay interface once you have updated your iPhone.

Multifunction Dashboard 

With the updated version of Apple CarPlay, you will no longer have to bounce back and forth between the different screens. The multifunction dashboard allows you to view destination directions, view the audio that is currently playing on your iPhone and your vehicle’s current location on a map. The photo to the right is the Apple CarPlay feature in an Acura RDX. To the left, you can see your current location. In the middle, you can control your audio, then you can choose to have directions to a frequently traveled place or use the calendar app. The right of the display is just the Acura RDX vehicle interface. Siri On Any Screen

On the previous iOS software, using Siri meant having to look at another screen while waiting for Siri’s response. For example, if you were in the middle of getting directions or listening to an audio app, you would be instantly kicked from that screen on the previous software. Now,  Siri can be used on any screen at any time and you won’t miss your next turn. Siri can also provide assistance with apps associated with your at-home devices and security systems. Open your garage door, turn on your lights or unlock your front door all with a voice command.

Use Your iPhone and Still Have A CarPlay Display

You now have the ability to safely use your phone and have the Apple CarPlay feature still on display on your vehicle’s interface. Previously, if you were using your iPhone independently, the CarPlay feature would close. Now you can safely enjoy using your iPhone as well as an uninterrupted CarPlay session.

Other Update Features

If you have updated your iPhone and chosen the ‘dark mode’ option for your iPhone’s display, you can now choose the ‘dark mode’ option for your Apple CarPlay screen as well. Enjoy a dimmed interface screen with the new software.

10th Annual Scarecrows in the Park Competition

Scanlon Auto Group will be sponsoring the 10th annual “Scarecrows in the Park” on Oct. 11-27 at Lakes Regional Park, 7330 Gladiolus Drive, Fort Myers, FL 33908. As part of the Lakes Park Fall Festival, local community members, local businesses, schools, and local youth groups can join the competition. Competitors will be fashioning custom made scarecrows that will be on display during the festival.

Proceeds from the events will fund the Lakes Park Enrichment Foundation. The Foundation works to raise funds for enhancements to the park such as providing additional stations on trails for visitors, maximizing the Children’s Learning Garden as part of the park’s botanical garden and the Community Garden that provides produce to local food banks throughout the year. The Fall Festival receives over 50,000 visitors every year. 2020 Acura NSX Will Feature Heritage Color

The 2020 NSX will be the first model year to premier the Indy Yellow Pearl exterior color. The shade is a modern interpretation of the Spa Yellow exterior color of the NSX’s model years 1997 through 2003, making Indy Yellow Pearl a heritage color like Berlina Black. Acura has decided to revamp the color due to Spa Yellow being the most popular first-generation NSX color.

The Indy Yellow Pearl exterior color made its debut during Monterey Car Week back in early August of 2019. The NSX is Acura’s version of a supercar. It is powerful yet has an extraordinary design sculpted with graceful lines and curves that give this vehicle an identity of its own.

On the day of delivery, park your vehicle in an unenclosed and cover-free area so your Amazon delivery messenger can locate the vehicle. Amazon will send notification regarding the status of the delivery and you can have confidence in your orders because the Key service is backed by Amazon Happiness Guarantee. You’ve got it!

• If you don’t already have the Key by Amazon app, download it!
• Log-in your Amazon Prime account (remember you must be a Prime member)
• Select the year, make, and model of the Acura vehicle you wish to have your package delivered to
• The Key by Amazon app will request users to input their credentials for their AcutaLink Account, this is so the Amazon delivery agent can have the same remote features your AcuraLinks provides to open and lock your vehicle during drop off
• Once all the accounts are linked, select “in-car delivery” upon your next Amazon order on the check-out screen

What happens after all my accounts are linked and I’m ready for delivery?

At delivery, the Amazon agent will send a signal to your Acura RDX to remotely unlock the vehicle. The package is then placed in the trunk or cargo area and the vehicle is relocked with the app. The owner is then notified that the delivery is complete along with the timestamps of the delivery.

Scanlon Auto Group Gives Away 30th Habitat for Humanity Home

Scanlon Auto Group has officially given away its 30th home in Fort Myers, Florida with the help of the Habitat for Humanity nonprofit organization of Lee and Hendry county. Scanlon Auto Group has been a proud sponsor of the Habitat for Humanity organization for many years through its donations and its company-wide Habitat Build Day, where employees of the Auto Group donate an entire day to build a Habitat home.

Scanlon Auto‘s most recent recipients of a Habitat home were Gregory and Kortney (as seen in photos). Before purchasing the Habitat home near Cape Coral, Florida, they struggled with finding affordable housing in the SWFL area. After months of taking homeowner classes and saving money by living with family members, they were able to purchase a Habitat house that was made affordable through donations made by Scanlon Auto Group! Scanlon is a proud sponsor of numerous nonprofit organizations throughout Lee County.

Habitat homes are built through donations of money and materials from organizations like Scanlon Auto Group and the use of volunteer labor. The homes are then sold to low-income families (like Gregory and Kourtney) and provide an interest-free mortgage and monthly payments set at less than 30 percent of the homeowner’s income. Through determination, hard work and “sweat equity“, Gregory and Kourtney were able to have an affordable place to call home. Scanlon Auto Group is proud to have given away its 30th home and looks forward to giving away many more.

Scanlon Auto Group Attends Rumrunner’s Celebrity Chef Night

Scanlon Auto Group attended the 15th Annual Celebrity Chef Night at Rumrunners in Cape Harbour! The event’s proceeds will support Barbara’s Friends cancer services at Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida. Our management team and their loved ones enjoyed culinary excellence from Chef Todd Johnson and Chef Ralph Centalonza of Rumrunners. Other culinary celebrities in attendance were Norman Love Confections and other local chefs.

The night featured a champagne toast drawing to win a custom-made Mark Loren Design piece, a silent auction featuring hand-signed memorabilia from the worlds of sports and entertainment, as well as trips and travel to some great destinations and popular events throughout the US – and like always a live auction filled with unique packages.

The annual event has always been a success, last year it raised more than $150,000 for the cancer fund. This year, the event raised $110,000. Annually, Scanlon donates more than $100,000 locally! Scanlon Auto Group has been a proud sponsor of the Celebrity Chef Night for many years and plans on being a sponsor for many years to come.

The Golden Rule of tires is to adhere to factory recommended specifications. Don’t risk your safety and the safety of your passengers by straying from the recommended size, speed rating, and load rating. This information is easily found on the driver front door jamb of the car.

In the example above, the tire and load information label displays a good deal of information:

• SEATING CAPACITY – The first piece of information is the seating capacity for your Acura. In this case, there is room for 2 in the front seat and 3 in the rear seats.
• TOTAL COMBINED WEIGHT – occupants and cargo combined should not exceed 850 lbs.
• TIRE SIZE – The correct size is 235/45R17 93W. This is broken down as follows:
  1. 235 refers to the width of the tire in millimeters
  2. 45 refers to the aspect ratio. This indicates that the height of the sidewall is equal to 45% of the width of the tire. A ‘low profile’ tire will have a lower aspect ration and is designed for superior handling. A ‘high profile’ tire will have a higher aspect ration and is designed for elevated comfort. (45 is just perfect for your TL)
  3. R refers to the Radial construction of the tire.
  4. 17 refers to the diameter of the wheel.
  5. 93 refers to the load rating. This is the maximum weight that a tire can support when properly inflated. A designation of 93 equates to a load of 1,433 lbs. per tire.
  6. W refers to the speed rating of the tire. The speed rating indicates the maximum service speed for the tire. H carries a maximum speed of 130 MPH, although this is not a recommendation to exceed the speed limit.
• Tire pressure – Correct tire pressure is 33 PSI in the front tires and 32 PSI in the rear tires (make sure to set the pressure when the tire is ‘cold’ or not driven recently).
• Spare – Details on the spare tire size, speed rating, and load rating.
